Class Reconvenes Post-Matthew
First, click on my links. They're underlined on all of my posts.
Today we began the process of taking the 3D Scans and making them into something we can look at and manipulate through various programs. Scans (or grid point clouds) were loaded off the school website onto my external hard drive, where I then loaded them onto Gexcel software and applied the color pictures that the scanner took while making the point clouds. After this step, the clouds were exported into Reconstructor. This step takes a very long time!
Now the scans are ready to be processed. Again, this takes a long time.
After processing the scans are 'cleaned up,' and erroneous points removed. This is great, but I became overenthusiastic and had to start the whole process again from the beginning, because I removed too many points and then couldn't properly register them!
Registration is cool, because that's when the scans are lined up and connected together to make a whole. Points on the reference grids are connected to points on moving grids. You kind of have to do it to know what I'm talking about. The screen here shows the points processing, and the white bits are the extra points that will be 'cleaned up."
