Legal Incentives
The newly minted Certified Local Government (CLG) of East Hampton Town (this application is in process) incentivizes historic preservation initiatives in the Plaza Area of Montauk. The protections of East Hampton Town’s Design Review Board requirements combined with eligibility for tax credit incentives should a historic district be created will simultaneously protect and encourage the reuse and revitalization of aging 1950s hotel stock, with special consideration given to the Carl Fisher buildings from the 1920’s.
A 'Main Street' approach isn't suitable for Montauk. Finding a way to simultaneously serve the local community and the transient summer community is. Thus far in Montauk, development has been at the expense of the local community.
